Drivers heading onto the M62 were hit by seven miles of queueing traffic this morning.
Long queues continued to build during rush hour along the M62 Eastbound and M621.
Speeds have been restricted to 15 mph in some sections.
Here’s what caused traffic gridlock on the M62 today.
M62 Eastbound and M621 delays
There were severe delays of 16 minutes on the M62 Eastbound between J25 A644 Wakefield Road (Brighouse) and J27 M621 (Gildersome).
The AA warned drivers: “Long delays and queueing traffic for seven miles on M62 Eastbound from J26 M606 J1 (Chain Bar) to J27 M621 (Gildersome). Congestion to almost back to J24 A629 (Ainley Top). In the construction area. Travel time is 30 minutes.”
The average speed along the route was 15 mph, though delays reportedly began to ease as of 8.45am.
There were severe and increasing delays of 16 minutes on the A6110 Ring Road Beeston Eastbound between B6154 Pudsey Road and A643 Elland Road.
This route’s average speed was last reported to be around five mph.
There were delays of five minutes on the A644 Wakefield Road Eastbound between M62 J25 (Brighouse) and A62 Leeds Road (Cooper Bridge roundabout).
The average speed in this section of the M62 was reportedly 10 mph.
Traffic was extremely slow for drivers heading via the M62 onto the M606, between the Hartshead Moor Top area and Oakwell Hall.
One of The AA’s latest traffic updates read: “Severe delays of 16 minutes and delays easing on M62 Eastbound between J25 A644 Wakefield Road (Brighouse) and J27 M621 (Gildersome). Average speed 15 mph."

The major route has been plagued by serious delays in recent weeks.
Rush hours queues stretched back three miles in early October while some drivers illegally resorted to using the hard shoulder days later.
