A WOMAN has been fined after failing to produce a rail ticket when required on a journey between Bradford and Preston.
Fiona Phan, 24, of Woodbine Road, Blackburn, faced one charge of failing to produce/deliver a rail ticket on request/give name and address.
At Bradford Forster Square train station, she boarded a train without a valid ticket to travel or a promise to pay notice for the journey to Preston on March 18, 2022.
Phan produced an Anytime Short Return ticket from Bradford to Preston with a 16-25 railcard discount. She told rail staff she did not have her railcard.
She was given a Penalty Fare Notice for either £20 or twice the single fare, whichever was greater.
Payment was required within 21 days, this was unpaid which led to a reminder letter being sent to Phan. This too did not receive a response and a final reminder letter was sent. The fare remains unpaid.
Phan was fined £220, ordered to pay £150, a £34 victim surcharge and pay £18.60 compensation. A collection order was made at the sentencing hearing.
The case against Phan was proved at a single justice procedure hearing at Preston Magistrates’ Court on October 4, 2022.
