BRADFORD Council said it's “speaking constructively” with Government about the future of Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) in the city.

Speaking about the plan in an interview with ITV, Prime Minister Liz Truss said: “It will stop at Bradford. I’m very clear about that.”

Former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng also agreed to meet Bradford East Labour MP Imran Hussain to discuss the scheme.

But following his departure, and new chancellor Jeremy Hunt moving quickly to rip up Ms Truss and Mr Kwarteng’s economic agenda, what does the future hold for NPR?

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “We are speaking constructively with Government about what we need from them to progress our ambitions for Bradford and Northern Powerhouse Rail.

“As with all infrastructure projects, the investment needed is spread over many years, so what is put in or taken out by the Chancellor this month should not be of direct relevance to this kind of long-term investment programme.”
