A MAN has spoken of his anger after police were unable to find the people who unleashed a horrific hammer attack on him.

The 26-year-old, who did not want to be named, fell victim to the brutal and “unprovoked” assault in Keighley town centre back in May.

He said he believes they were looking to attack someone.

“They found out I was not from the town, I was from Bradford,” he said.

“What’s happened then is they’ve told me to get out, but the way they told me was aggressive and they said ‘get the f*** out of here’.”

At the time, the man was waiting for a taxi and when he got in it, was then followed to Devonshire Street.

He got out and saw two cars blocking the road and initially thought the four attackers were unarmed.

“One of the guys in front, he chucked a hammer at my head so hard I fell to the ground," he said.

“The other three lads, they came to me, all started whacking me with the hammers.”

He said the male who initially threw the hammer picked it up again and attacked him before they all fled the scene.

The man, who had to go to hospital and have his head glued, has spoken of his anger that his assailants have not been found and believes police need to do more.

He claimed police told him to come up with CCTV, names, and addresses.

“I’m alone, how am I meant to do it?” he said.

“It’s left me feeling emotional, scared, I get anxiety, panic attacks.

“It makes me feel like I can’t trust the police. They [the attackers] are still out there.”

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell of Bradford CID said: “A thorough and comprehensive review of this investigation has been carried out.

“This was a serious attack which left a man requiring hospital treatment.

“Officers obtained CCTV however suspects and vehicles were unable to be identified.

“Intelligence led to a person being arrested in connection with the incident, but we were unable to link the suspect to the offence via forensics, CCTV or Witness ID.

“Officers updated the victim in a timely and proportionate manner.

“We appreciate that the outcome of no further action this will be disappointing for the victim.

“We continue to support the victim and would welcome the opportunity for the victim and the officers to discuss this.”
