BRADFORD district is celebrating its green-fingered credentials after picking up a bunch of awards in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.

Bradford Council’s Cliffe Castle Park in Keighley was crowned overall winner of the Parks, Gardens, Cemeteries and Public Buildings category.

Judges described it as “a wonderful park with beautiful parkland providing amazing community facilities and support”.

They also praised the site for being well-maintained with “particular attention to the environment”.

The judges were impressed the park is used for a range of community events, including health and wellbeing activities, workshops and arts events.

Harold Park in Low Moor and Roberts Park in Saltaire both received Platinum awards, while Wilsden Park, as part of Wilsden in Bloom, received a Platinum award.

Other awards included: Esholt which won the Small Village category; Shipley in Bloom which got a Silver for the Small Town category; Keighley in Bloom – Silver Gilt for the Large Town Category; Thornton in Bloom – winner of the Urban Community; Wilsden in Bloom Closed Churchyard - Gold for the Parks, Gardens, Cemeteries and Public Buildings category and Keighley and Worth Valley Railway – Silver Gilt for the Tourist Attraction category.

Abbeydale Residential Home at Ilkley won gold in the Medium Business category and Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley won gold in the Large Business category.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Porfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places, said: “I'm delighted we have again been recognised for these awards. It’s a testimony to the hard work and commitment of our Parks and Green Spaces Service, the friends of groups and many other volunteers and community groups.

“Our parks and green spaces have become even more valuable and vital over the last couple of years, so all involved deserve this level of recognition.”

Other winners in surrounding areas included Bramhope in Bloom, Calverley in Bloom and Rawdon in Bloom, who all won gold in the Urban Community category.

Cleckheaton in Bloom's Library Garden won a Thriving award in the - RHS 'It's your Neighbourhood' category.

Oakwell Hall and Country Park at Batley won gold in the Tourist Attractions category.

In the Craven area, Grassington in Bloom won gold in the Village category and River House B&B won gold in the Small Business category.

Yorkshire in Bloom is assessed by local judges on criteria developed by the RHS, including horticultural know-how, community engagement, efforts to bolster biodiversity and climate change adaptation.
