A RESIDENTS group which maintains an area where a planning application has been made to site a phone mast have lodged its strong objections.
CK Hutchison Networks (UK) Ltd has submitted an application to Bradford Council for the installation of telecommunications mast and equipment/power cabinets on land at the corner of Grove Road and Wilton Road.
The Friends of Glenwood Gardens, a local resident group who have jointly maintained the area with Bradford Council for over 15 years, said in their objection to the company: "The history of the land is that it was bequeathed to Ilkley as a memorial park over 70 years ago. It is a local amenity space widely used throughout the year, particularly by families and children. Your proposal is not in keeping with the agreed use of this land.
"We draw your attention to the following:
• The proposed site is in a Conservation area subject to tight planning controls to maintain the special character of the built landscape, open spaces and the natural environment.
• Your pre-proposal document incorrectly describes the site as a 'grass verge' when in fact it's an extensive area of maintained parkland.
• The site is surrounded by large, specimen trees - many well over 20m in height - which will reduce the effectiveness of the proposed mast in this location.
• There is emerging evidence of adverse health effects especially impacting young children, whether local residents or visitors playing in the park. Your proposed site is next to a Children's' Nursery. This is unacceptable."
Ilkley Town Council has also written to CK Hutchison Networks (UK) Ltd to express their objection in the strongest possible terms to the erection of the proposed radio base at this location in Ilkley.
The planning application - reference number 22/04318/PNT - can be viewed online at planning.bradford.gov.uk
A decision is expected in November.
