A WOMAN has been fined after failing to produce a valid train ticket for a journey between Leeds and Bradford.

Nasima Ullah, 23, of Sunbridge Road, Bradford, faced a charge of failing to produce/deliver a rail ticket on request/give name and address.

On a journey between Leeds and Bradford Interchange, on December 3, 2021, Ullah produced an advance single ticket for a journey between Leeds and Bradford Forster Square.

It was pointed out to her by rail staff that her ticket was not valid as the train she was on did not go to Forster Square and it was for an hour later. Both train journeys also had specific start times.

Her details were obtained and a letter was sent to Ullah requesting payment of the fare. As there was no response, a Fixed Penalty letter was then sent and the fare remains unpaid. The train fare avoided is £4.70.

Ullah was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, £34 victim surcharge and £4.70 compensation, for a total of £408.70. A collection order was made by the court at the sentencing hearing.

The case was proved in a single justice procedure hearing at South Yorkshire Magistrates’ Court on October 6, 2022.
