A MAN has avoided jail for being in possession of a knife in a chemist in the Bradford district.
James Beaumont, 41, of Sunbridge Road, Bradford, faced a charge of being in possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place - Criminal Justice Act 1988.
He was convicted of being in possession of a knife at Boots in Market Square, Shipley. The offence took place on June 29, 2022.
Beaumont was committed to prison for six months, suspended for 12 months, for the offence. It was his second knife-related charge.
He was also handed a rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
He was given no separate penalty for a theft from a shop charge after he stole 10 deodorant cans and five bottles of shampoo, to the value of £42.20, from Boots, Market Square, Shipley.
A collection order was made at the sentencing hearing and the court is to apply for deductions from Beaumont’s benefits.
The knife is to be forfeited and destroyed under section 143 Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000.
Beaumont pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court on September 28, 2022.
