A viral video which appears to show a Bradford police officer pushing a man 11 times has led to a further appeal from the force.

West Yorkshire Police is appealing for anyone with dash cam and CCTV footage of the incident to come forward.

The video, captured by a neighbour’s CCTV camera, has been watched by thousands of people on social media who voiced concerns about the officer’s use of force.

It took place on Queens Road in Bradford on Thursday afternoon (October 6).

The pedestrian, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed the incident started when the police car pulled onto the pavement close to where he was standing.

He claims the police officer used excessive force.

Describing his version of events, the man said: “There was a truck broken down in the road. I was helping with that.

“That first push sent me. It knocked me back quite a bit.

“My chest was hurting.

“It took me back straight away, I wasn’t expecting it to be that forceful.

“The last thing I want is for this to be brushed under the carpet. If I was in the wrong I would have just walked away and talked to myself.

“It was not needed.”

The pedestrian filed a formal complaint with West Yorkshire Police.

West Yorkshire Police said the officer involved has since been identified and suspended from public-facing duties.

Meanwhile a referral has been made to the Professional Standards Directorate.

In the latest update from the force, a spokesperson said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any footage of it is asked to contact police via 101 or the LiveChat Options at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contactus quoting log 760 of October 6.”

The video sparked a huge reaction from hundreds of T&A readers and was shared more than 300 times. 

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Last week, a police spokesperson said: "West Yorkshire Police are aware of a video circulating of an incident involving one of our officers which is believed to have taken place on Queens Road in Bradford yesterday afternoon (6/10).

"The officer involved has been identified and removed from public-facing duties while enquiries are made to fully establish what has happened.

"A referral has been made to the Force’s Professional Standards Directorate."
