DRIVERS stuck in huge queues on the M62 this morning resorted to using the hard shoulder to escape gridlock on the motorway.
They faced huge delays on the motorway due to a crash.
It happened between junction 24 (Ainley Top) and junction 24 (Brighouse), resulting in lengthy queues.
Traffic stretched back to junction 23 (Huddersfield) and vehicles were at a complete standstill.
Some drivers were seen using the hard shoulder to avoid the queues and leave the motorway at junction 24. In just two minutes, a total of 10 motorists could be seen driving along the hard shoulder, including two vans, a white Audi saloon and a Mercedes saloon.
All lanes have now re-opened, though there may be some residual delays.
