A West Yorkshire Police officer has been removed from public-facing duties after a viral video prompted concerns about his use of force.
The video, which was caught on a neighbour’s CCTV camera on Queens Road in Bradford on Thursday afternoon (October 6), has been watched by thousands of people on social media.
The pedestrian, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the incident started when the police car pulled onto the pavement close to where he was standing.
He claims the police officer used excessive force.
In the one and a half minute long clip, the officer appears to push the pedestrian 11 times before walking down the street.
Describing his version of events, he said: “There was a truck broken down in the road. I was helping with that.
“That first push sent me. It knocked me back quite a bit.
“My chest was hurting.
“It took me back straight away, I wasn’t expecting it to be that forceful.
“The last thing I want is for this to be brushed under the carpet. If I was in the wrong I would have just walked away and talked to myself.
“It was not needed.”
