A BRADFORD business is over the moon after being named the best restaurant in the district – and the second-best new restaurant in the UK – at an awards ceremony in London.
Café J'adore, which is on Chester Street, in the city centre's West End, has described its win at the British Restaurant Awards as a massive achievement.
The awards, held at Porchester Hall, celebrated the best eateries in the country, while cities and counties across the UK also had their own regional categories.
Café J'adore – which boasts breakfast, brunch and dinner options – only opened its doors in March.
“It was a huge shock – but our hard work has paid off,” said its director, Sakandar Hayat.
“Bradford is known for its food. If you ask anyone where the best food in the UK is, Bradford will always be mentioned – there are some big players here.
“So for us to be recognised is massive.”
In the Best Restaurant in Bradford category, Café J'adore staved off competition from the likes of Aldo’s Italian and MyLahore.
Sakandar added that the café was proud to have represented Bradford in the capital.
“The great thing was, everyone at the awards all knew and understood the major role that Bradford plays in the food game,” he said.
“We were rubbing shoulders with big names down there, like Levi Roots, for example – it was amazing.”
Café J'adore has marketed itself as a place which brings something new to Bradford.
“There are bundles of curry houses here, and they are all successful places – but no one ever tries something different,” Sakandar said.
“Our style, presentation and everything we do at Café J'adore is unique.
“We do American-style dishes like fluffy pancakes and waffles, as well as French toast and full English breakfasts.
“We’re taking the food game in Bradford to a different level.”
Looking ahead to the future, Sakandar said that the Café has big ambitions.
“We have plans to add more dishes to both our breakfast and brunch and our dinner menus, so customers have that to look forward to,” he said.
“We’ll also be launching a brand-new all-day menu.
“If we can carry on what we’re doing, hopefully we can win a national award next time.
“We’re a very ‘Instagramable’ café and I’d recommend that people come and give our breakfast and brunch a try.”
