Great crowds gather as Saltaire Festival draws to a close

The second, finale weekend of the re-arranged festival, has seen a host of music acts take over Roberts Park.

The Caroline Street Car Park Craft market - which has more than 20 stalls ranging from jewellery and food to prints and gifts - has also been thriving.

One visitor, who attended the festival yesterday, said: “The music stage was packed when the sun was out, but even when it was raining there was still plenty of people enjoying themselves.

"The food and market stalls were great. Brilliant to see so many people out having fun after the last few years.”

Earlier this month, the annual festival was postponed due to the national period of mourning following the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

The 2019 version of the event, the last to be held in full before the pandemic, attracted 60,000 people.

Earlier this week, Ian Andrews-Swailes, Saltaire Festival chairman, told the Telegraph & Argus that he expects the 19th instalment of the event to be the "biggest ever"

The festivities began last weekend and included a screening of Mamma Mia – The Movie starring Meryl Streep in Roberts Park on September 24.

Road closures are still in place on Exhibition Road and Caroline Street and parking on the lower section of Victoria Road.

Buses have been diverted via Saltaire Road during the festival.
