A GROUP of residents from a Bradford district town held their first meeting to have their say on how to limit the impact of climate change.

Shipley Town Council has set up a citizens’ jury this autumn, made up of a diverse group of 25 town residents.

The jury will consider the question: How can we work together in Shipley to limit climate change and its impacts while protecting our environment and health?

The group, which started on September 28, will take place over nine weeks and will provide time for people to learn about climate issues, debate how they affect Shipley and generate ideas that will be included in the Climate Change Plan being drawn up by the Town Council.

Councillor Darren Parkinson, Chair of the Climate Emergency and Environment Committee said: “I’ve lived in Shipley for 20 years working on addressing climate change and on Wednesday night I was pleased to meet lots of new people who are keen to get involved.”

Councillor Paul McHugh, of Shipley Town Council, said: “The jury will decide which aspects of climate change they want to explore and address over the coming weeks, and we will strive to ensure they have all the information they need to come up with actions we can take forward.”
