A MAN faces a bill of more than £630 after dodging a train fare on a journey between Bradford Interchange and Sowerby Bridge.
Richard McGuire, 42, of Lower Bentley Royd, Sowerby Bridge, faced a charge of travelling on the railway without paying a fare.
Court documents state: “On Thursday, March 3, 2022 the defendant made a rail journey from Bradford Interchange to Sowerby Bridge.
“During the journey he was asked by the conductor to produce a valid ticket, this he could not do. Further, the defendant could not pay for the journey he was making.
“He was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice in good faith so that he may pay the outstanding fare within 21 days.
“Full instructions of where to send payment or to dispute liability are clearly printed on the notice.
“However, the defendant failed to make payment within the prescribed time period, subsequently a reminder letter was sent to him requesting payment.
“Again he has failed to communicate or to acknowledge this reasonable request, as a result of which the fare remains unpaid.”
The offence was proved in McGuire’s absence on September 14. He was fined £440, ordered to pay costs of £150 as well as a surcharge of £44 and compensation of £4.30.
