A NEW convenience store in the Bradford district will open its doors next week.
Tesco is getting ready to welcome customers to the opening of its new Express store in Shipley on Monday, October 3 at 10am.
The store on Saltaire Road will provide 18 jobs to the area and feature a bakery, Costa Coffee Express machine and an ATM.
The Tesco store replaces the since demolished Northcliffe Garage, near the border between Saltaire and Shipley.
Stephen Charlton, the store’s manager, said: “We’re hugely excited to be opening our Northcliffe Shipley Express store to help support the community.
“The store opening will provide a real boost for Shipley, helping to employ and train local people, and it’ll be a pleasure to see our staff grow and develop.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming so much new talent and experience into our Tesco team.
“We will, of course, also promote Tesco’s Community Grants scheme, with the aim of donating thousands of pounds for local good causes that can help the community to flourish.”
“We are doing this while still offering the community our best service and broad range of products such as fresh food and food to go – and we look forward to welcoming our first customers.”
Mr Charlton added supporting the community’s residents will be important to store staff.
Community groups in and around Shipley are invited to apply for community funding through Community Grants, Tesco’s blue token voting scheme (formerly known as Bags of Help) which sees three local projects voted on by customers in-store every three months, with first place awarded £2,000, second £1,000 and third £500.
Since Tesco Community Grants was launched in 2016, the scheme has awarded over £73,000 to 33 projects across Shipley. Among the projects to benefit is Hive Digital Cafe, who received £500 to provide a digital café for older people suffering isolation.

One of the other Tesco schemes to benefit Shipley is Community Food Connection, which is dedicated to redistributing surplus food to charities and Since its launch in 2015, the Tesco Community Food Connection Scheme has donated almost 30,000 meals to charities in Shipley.
The Community Food Connection scheme is run in partnership with food redistribution charity FareShare. Each month more than one million meals’ worth of food are donated across the country.
The new Tesco Express store will be open every day from 7am to 11pm.
