THE new series of the Great British Bake Off continued with Bread Week for the remaining bakers.
The bakers had to tackle a signature of making two sharing pizzas, a technical of making a dozen pan aux raisins and a Smorgastarte – a Swedish sandwich cake as their showstopper for their three challenges.
Nobody went home as Rebs and Abdul were missing from the show due to illness, but Janusz was voted star baker in this week’s episode.

Here is Sandy Docherty’s verdict of week three’s show, as she continues her weekly Telegraph & Argus column which will be online each Wednesday morning while the 10-week series is on.
On Bread Week, Sandy says: “One of the best Bread Weeks yet.
“I think I really enjoyed the challenges and I’m inspired by the challenges.
“The pizza challenge will have motivated people to try making a pizza, there is nothing to it, have a go.

“The technical was a desirable one to get people thinking they might make it. The showstopper was something I’m desperate to try it. Savoury bread cake; I’m definitely up for having a go. They were a good set of challenges.
“How fair is it when you have two contestants missing? Nobody goes home when two are missing. Does it mean nobody goes home for two weeks? How fair does it make the competition?
“If one of the missing two contestants goes on to win it, how fair would that be?

“Bread Week is a critical week, it’s a maker or breaker.
“Rebs, who was missing, has had a couple of wobbly weeks as it is. It saved Peter and Dawn last night.
“Janusz was definitely the right choice as star baker. Sandro was not far behind. He is looking good.
“As long as Janusz does not get too crazy, then he is one to watch. He is entertaining and honest “The bread challenges were excellent. They were inspiring challenges.”
