A MAN faces a bill of more than £660 after dodging a train fare between Manchester and Bradford.
Joseph Sajimon, 19, of Bonnington Street, Leicester, faced one charge of travelling on a railway without paying a fare.
He travelled between Manchester Victoria and Bradford Interchange on April 29, 2022 without paying the £29.20 fare.
Sajimon produced an Advance single from Manchester Victoria to Bradford Interchange stations with a 16-25 Railcard discount.
When requested by rail staff, he was unable to produce the accompanying Railcard, he claimed he had lost it.
His details were obtained and he was advised the facts would be reported. Following the incident a letter was sent to the defendant requesting an explanation, as there was no response, a Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent. However this remains unpaid, the court heard.
Sajimon was fined £440, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £44 victim surcharge and £29.20 compensation for the offence, which totalled £663.20. A collection order was made by the court at the sentencing hearing.
The offence committed by Sajimon was contrary to section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
Sajimon was sentenced in his absence at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on September 14, 2022.
