BRADFORD-based fans of American sports brands can get kitted out at a new store at a city shopping centre.

Lids has opened its doors at The Broadway, where its shelves are piled high with colourful rows of baseball caps and jerseys from a host of USA sports teams from the worlds of basketball and baseball, in particular.

Items from teams including New York Yankees, Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic are available for sports fans to buy.

The sports teams' jerseys are priced between £90 and £245, while baseball caps are available from £18 and £36.

Lids offers a huge range of official sports hats and merchandise, including brands such as Nike, New Era, adidas and Mitchell & Ness. The brand is currently expanding rapidly with new store roll outs planned throughout Europe.

Customers can also have their baseball caps customised with their name or a logo in-store.

The 1,200sq ft store in The Broadway will be the brand’s 20th store in the UK. Lids is an international sports retailer that sells fan and fashion-oriented headwear and apparel.

Orla Callan, the store’s assistant manager, said: “It’s been great since we opened last Saturday.

“The US sports clothes and hats are really popular.

“It’s been a mix of ages coming in since we opened. Lids is hoping to open 10 new stores in the UK in the next three months. The company is really branching out.

“People have been taking pictures when they have come into the store to send to their friends of what we sell.

“The New York Yankees baseball tops have been selling well. Everyone knows them.”

Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway, said: “Providing six new jobs for the region, this new lease marks a welcome addition to the wealth of brands and stores already found at The Broadway.

“We have a number of new lease announcements in the pipeline and new retailers poised to open in the Centre before the end of the year.”
