BRADFORD Council has insisted they are actively investigating incidents of fly-tipping after images emerged of waste being dumped near a river.

The rubbish - which includes vacuum cleaners, a boiler, electrical wires, clothing and bedding - was thrown beside the River Aire in Esholt.

One unhappy resident said: "I and others walk along the road that leads to the famous old Emmerdale site, picking up food wrappers and cans on a near daily basis.

"Something needs to be done as this has progressively got worse over the last two years."

The Council says it is determined to tackle fly-tipping and revealed figures to support this.

A spokesperson said: “As with any reported case of fly-tipping, we will investigate this and take steps to clear it if it is on council land.

"If it is on privately-owned land we work with the landowners, advising on removal and prevention of future incidents.

“We actively investigate fly-tipping and regularly take enforcement action against offenders.

"Last year, we investigated over 2,000 incidents, issued over 50 fly-tipping fixed penalty notices and seized five vehicles involved in environmental crime.

"If anyone has information about this fly tipping incident or any others please report it at www.bradford.gov.uk/flytipping or call 01274 432111.”
