WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS
THE new series of the Great British Bake Off continued with Biscuit Week for the remaining 11 bakers.
The bakers had to tackle a signature of making 18 identical macarons, a technical of baking 12 garibaldi biscuits and a 3D mask as their showstopper for their three challenges. Maisam went and Maxy was voted star baker in this week’s episode.
Here is Sandy Docherty’s verdict of week two’s episode, as she continues her weekly Telegraph & Argus column which will be online each Wednesday morning while the 10-week series is on.
So many tears. So many smiles. Thanks for joining us on quite an emotional Biscuit Week on Bake Off! #GBBO pic.twitter.com/QZWMWOVcEp

On Biscuit Week, Sandy says: “I’m always pleased to see Biscuit Week. I did well on it. All 11 bakers came up with something similar.
“I do make biscuits, you forget that the modern baker do things differently.
“It was a good start with macarons, but they are my nemesis. I will master them one day. They are so intricate in their method. It was good to see them all succeed.
“Janusz’s watermelon macarons looked so lovely. It was good to see they turned up with something. Poor Rebs had a blip again. I don’t think I’ve seen a baker who nearly bakes everything twice.
“You shouldn’t underestimate your passions because they can take you places that you’d never imagine.”

Very wise words from Maisam in her lovely letter to Bake Off fans. #GBBO pic.twitter.com/ttZFeGYspS
“The simple garibaldi. They seemed to throw everybody, they didn’t know what they were. What was Prue thinking about putting chocolate on a garibaldi biscuit? All 11 bakers came up with something of a similar version.
“For the Showstopper at first I was a bit confused, I thought they had to make a mask of their own faces. I was pleasantly surprised with what they did.
“As a northerner I could not understand why you do things for the sake of it, like the masks. There has to be a reason to do them.
Huge congratulations to our Biscuit Week Star Baker Maxy! #GBBO pic.twitter.com/Ot73ozf1UE

“I still struggle to see why you need to make a biscuit mask, but they have to come up with challenges for the show.
“I still maintain it should be about inspiring us to bake things. The Showstopper is for TV and the Signature and Technical are what bakers can be inspired by.
“Maxy was deserving of star baker but there were a couple up for it. James is coming through and Sandro is steady away. Janusz seems to be a natural baker. I have a soft spot for him.
“I was not surprised Maisam left us. She struggled last week but should be so proud for getting where she has got out of the thousands of people who applied.”
