COUNCILLORS have spoken of their sadness about hearing news of police investigating the discovery of a body in Bradford.

A number of police vehicles were parked outside an address on Shetcliffe Lane today (Tuesday) and it is believed the police scene, not far from the junction with Tong Street, is related to the disappearance of Steven Kershaw.

In a statement released on Saturday, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police searching for missing Steven Kershaw from Bradford have now located the body of a man.

“Police attended at a property in Bradford on Friday night, September 16, and located the body of an adult male.

“While formal identification is yet to take place, Steven’s family have been made aware of the development.”

Cllr Ralph Berry (Lab, Wibsey) said: "We were contacted by police because the person was a Wibsey resident. It's very sad. Our thoughts will be with the family of the deceased person."

Cllr Matt Edwards (Green, Tong) added: “I know people will be very concerned to see such a significant presence outside their homes on one of the main roads for the area.

“This is a very difficult time for the family and friends of Mr Kershaw and I think we really need to let the police do their job and avoid speculating about what has happened until we get more details.”

Police have arrested a man and woman in connection with the development.
