A HUGE police presence could be seen on a Bradford street today (Tuesday) as forensic officers scoured an address for clues.
Two police vans, two smaller police vehicles and a Crime Scene Investigation van were parked outside an address on Shetcliffe Lane, East Bierley, Bradford.
Forensic officers in protective suits were seen entering and leaving the building on a number of occasions with various items.
It is believed that the police scene on Shetcliffe Lane, not far from the junction with Tong Street, is related to the disappearance of Steven Kershaw and a police presence has been in the area since Friday evening.
Police revealed on Saturday that a body had been found at an address in East Bierley and that its Homicide and Major Enquiry Team was in charge of the investigation.
Though formal identification had not been carried out at that stage, Mr Kershaw’s family had been informed of the development.
A man and woman have been arrested and remained in police custody today (Tuesday). The T&A asked police for the ages of the arrested people and what they were being held on suspicion of, but this information is yet to be provided.
One resident said: "It's not good and the scene in place now is nowhere near to what it's been like (over the past couple of days)."
A resident on the street said at one time, he counted 22 forensic officers going into the address on Shetcliffe Lane.
The cordon appears to be across two addresses, but police could only be seen going inside one of the houses.
Residents have said that this is out of the ordinary and the scene was ‘unexpected’.
One said: “There’s been a police car here, every night since Friday.”
Pictures show forensic officers, combing through rubbish from a bin as they look for evidence.
The windows of the address were opened with sheets covering the view from outside.
In the statement released on Saturday, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police searching for missing Steven Kershaw from Bradford have now located the body of a man.
“Enquiries are continuing today after police searching for missing Steven, 65, from East Bierley attended at a property in Bradford on Friday night, September 16, and located the body of an adult male.
“While formal identification is yet to take place, Steven’s family have been made aware of the development
“Following enquiries a man and woman were arrested in connection with the development and remain in police custody.
“The investigation remains ongoing by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.”
