A pioneering project to provide a free shuttle bus in West Yorkshire's town centres was celebrating its first anniversary today.
Metro, the operating name of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, started the FreeCityBus in Wakefield.
The scheme proved so successful that it was rolled out in Leeds and Huddersfield and is now set to be given a trial in Bradford.
The six-month trial in Bradford is expected to start in the late summer or early autumn and would involve Metro funding a fleet of three buses to cover a proposed city centre route of just over three miles.
To celebrate the first anniversary of the FreeCityBus, Metro has produced a special cake, which was due to be sliced by Metro chairman Councillor Ryk Downes today.
When launched in Bradford, the service is expected to connect Bradford Interchange, Forster Square station and retail park, the Kirkgate shopping centre, the markets, the university and college and the National Media Museum.
