A MAN faces a bill of more than £450 after dodging a train fare between Crewe and Bradford.
Michal Kotero, 30, of Chambers Street, Crewe, faced one charge of failing to produce/deliver a rail ticket on request/give name and address.
He travelled between Crewe and Bradford Interchange on March 11, 2022 without paying the £47.60 fare.
When he arrived at Manchester Piccadilly station he was requested to produce a ticket. But Kotero was unable to do so and when questioned he stated that he had purchased tickets from the ticket vending machine in Crewe but the tickets did not come out. He went on to say that he had paid for a return and could prove it.
Following the incident a letter was sent to Kotero requesting either payment of the fare or proof of purchase for the correct train. But he failed to respond to this letter which resulted in a Fixed Penalty letter being sent. This remains unpaid.
Kotero was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £34 victim surcharge and £47.60 compensation for the offence, which totalled £451.60.
Kotero was sentenced under the single justice procedure at Manchester & Salford Magistrates’ Court on September 6, 2022.
