The inquest of a 28-year-old man shot by police on the M62 motorway in West Yorkshire has got underway.
Yassar Yakub was the passenger in an Audi A4 that was travelling from Bradford to Huddersfield when it was surrounded by unmarked police vehicles at junction 24 of the motorway, on the sliproad at Ainley Top, on January 2, 2017.
The jury inquest, at Leeds Crown Court, is expected to last around eight weeks.
A jury was selected today (Friday), with the first evidence set to be given to the court on Tuesday next week.
Recorder of Leeds, Judge Guy Kearl KC, told the jurors they will be told about events that led to the death of Mr Yakub, from Huddersfield.
The Judge said that, at the end of the evidence, he would provide the jury with some directions of law, along with a summary of the evidence.
