A KEIGHLEY woman is to go on trial over allegations of animal cruelty towards two rabbits.

Jackie Priestley, 55, of Haynes Street, Keighley, appeared before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on September 6, to face three charges dating back to September and November last year.

She is charged with two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, between November 17 and 24, 2021. This relates to failing to adequately provide a suitable diet and failing to adequately investigate or address signs of ill health, including weight loss and poor bodily condition.

Furthermore, Priestley is charged with being the person responsible for an animal to ensure its welfare.

This involves accusations that Priestley did not take reasonable steps to ensure that the needs of the two tan-coloured female lop-eared rabbits were met.

At the hearing, Priestley pleaded not guilty, and a trial date has been set for January 19, 2023.
