Religious leaders across Bradford are united in grief and admiration following The Queen’s death.
Christians, Sikhs, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus have reflected on the monarch’s reign and the stability she brought to the nation.
While Her Majesty was a loyal follower of the Christian faith, the 96-year-old was appreciated by all faiths and backgrounds – whether she recognised the Sikh community’s contribution to the world wars or worked across the Commonwealth.
The Bishop of Bradford, Toby Howarth, said: "I join with all those from the Bradford District and indeed across the world in mourning the death of Her Majesty The Queen. It was a particular focus of Her Majesty's reign to respect and value all people of whatever faith or none, and this came from her own deeply held Christian faith.
“We pray for her family and all who grieve her death at this time, and particularly for our new King Charles III as he begins his reign.”
Laurence Saffer, president Leeds Jewish Representative Council and member of Bradford Synagogue, said: “The Jewish Communities throughout Yorkshire are profoundly sorry at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth of blessed memory.
“She was a beacon of light and hope for all faiths and had been for almost the entire life of almost all our community.
“Our thoughts and prayers extend to all the Royal Family on their loss.”
A spokesperson for Bradford Council for Mosques said: “British Muslims stand in unity with British people in this time of deep sorrow. Her Majesty was a pillar of hope, unity and stability in our ever changing and challenging world. Her reassuring presence will be greatly missed by millions.
“Her Majesty was the rock around which our stable democracy was built. As the Head of Modern Britain she elevated the national cause both at home and abroad.
“In the Commonwealth, she left an unparalleled legacy of international cooperation for democracy, common prosperity and peace.
“She deservedly will have a special place in the hearts of her subjects and in the annals of history.”
Mufti Qazi Hassan Razza, of Al Markaz ul Islami in BD7, said: "I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathises to the Royal Family on the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.
"Her Majesty devoted her life to public service and remained strong despite many challenges during her extraordinary 70-year reign.
"An immense sadness is felt throughout the country and, indeed across the world.
"As our country enters a period of mourning all communities stand united in remembering the legacy and, achievements of the Queen."
Dr Kuldip Bharj OBE DL, president of the Ramgarhia Gurdwara and general secretary to the Board of Bradford Gurdwaras, described The Queen as “phenomenal”.
Dr Bharj said: “I know I speak on behalf of the nation’s Sikh community when I say how incredibly saddened I am by the news of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
“The Queen dedicated selflessly her life to public service and played her role with great respect and dignity – a phenomenal woman.
“It meant so much to the Sikhs that Her Majesty the Queen recognised the Sikh nation and its heroic contribution to both World Wars I and II.
“We grieve with pain in our hearts and pray that Waheguru Ji blesses her soul to rest in peace; the Queen will be deeply missed.
“On behalf of the Bradfords Sikh community, I express deepest sympathies and condolences to His Majesty, King Charles III and all members of the Royal Family.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the royal family at this difficult time.”
Bradford Hindu Council said: “Our dear beloved Queen Elizabeth II has died aged 96. She was the world’s longest-serving monarch, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away a little over a year after husband, Prince Philip, to whom she was married for 73 years.
“On behalf of Bradford Hindu Council, We would like to extend our sympathies to the Royal Family. Huge loss for United Kingdom and for all Commonwealth Countries.
“With a sense of duty and with the loyalty she served the country from a very young age.
“Rest in Peace your Majesty.”
