Lifelong Royal fan Judith Watkinson is deeply saddened by news of the Queen’s ill health.

She has been listening to announcements throughout the afternoon.

“The Queen is so important to us, not just across the country but the world - she and the Royal family bring so much to Britain,” she says.

“It is very sad for everyone - my thoughts are with them.”

Judith has nothing but respect and admiration for The Queen.

Judith said: “In all the years of her reign she has not put a foot wrong.

"She is 96 and reached her Platinum Jubilee earlier this year which we all celebrated. It was an amazing event.

“She has put the country before everything and done her duty. Our queen has done us proud - she’s been a real brick."

Over the years Judith, who lives in Yeadon, has collected hundreds of Royal-themed items ranging from teapots to teddy bears, crockery, tablecloths and thimbles.

Her former home, the appropriately-named Windsor House near Bolton Junction, had a sentry box in the garden, with a 6ft-tall uniformed mannequin guard and two concrete corgis.

Judith had to give up many items from her collection when downsizing to her current flat, but still retains many pieces of memorabilia including three life-size cardboard cutouts of the Queen.

“The Queen means such a lot to me and has done from me being a little girl,” she said.

“My mum was a royalist and would buy me books about the Royals and other Royal memorabilia and I kept on collecting. My collection will mean even more to me in the years to come.”

In 2004, she attended Buckingham Palace garden party - an event she described as “a day to remember".

Judith believes that, when the time comes, Prince Charles will serve the nation well as our next king.

“He will do very well in the role, I am sure of it," Judith said.

She added: “We should be thankful that we have our monarchy, they do so much for the country. They are really special.”
