Paintings by a Royal Academician and inspired by the Bronte authors are on show at the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth from today.

And artist Bob Littleford has donated one of the nine watercolours, called Resurgam which pays homage to Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre, to the Bronte Society.

Mr Littleford, 62, is a self-taught artist who worked riveting door handles and as a dustman before becoming a full-time artist in the 1970s.

He began producing paintings inspired by the Brontes after hearing Bernard Herrmann's opera adaptation of Wuthering Heights, and the exhibition of new work is based on his response to their work.

Jenna Holmes, Arts Officer at the Bronte Parsonage Museum, said the exhibition was part of the museum's contemporary arts programme.

"The aim of the contemporary arts programme is to commission new responses to the Brontes and so it is fantastic to have a record of Bob's work in the archive," she added.

The exhibition is free on admission to the museum and the paintings are for sale.

Bob Littleford has shown at the Royal Academy, was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1986 and is a member of the British Watercolour Society. The show continues until April 19.
