Baildon Library has reopened in a new temporary site while a permanent home is prepared.
The former Martin’s newsagents in the centre of the village will be Baildon’s Library while work is carried out to convert the former Baildon Social Club.
The building will also be used as offices for Baildon Town Council, and the work is expected to be completed in 2023.
District and town councillors were given a special preview tour of the temporary space on Friday.
Because the temporary space is smaller, there will be a reduced amount of stock and the music collection has been moved to Keighley Library and the art collection to City Library.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “This new temporary spaces means that residents continue to have a library service while work is carried out to develop a new, modern site and essential facilities for the town council.”
The Council plans to sell Ian Clough Hall, the former home of the library, now the facility has moved.
When asked about the future of the hall a Council spokesman said: “We are currently producing a development brief for the Ian Clough Hall site which will assist potential developers to assess the site for suitable uses and design constraints. Once completed the site will be marketed for sale.”
