THE Lord Mayor of Bradford gave veteran charity fundraiser and former paratrooper, Jeffrey Long MBE, a civic send-off as he began his new fundraising venture on Friday.
Jeffrey, 90, of Bingley, set off at 11am on Friday from Centenary Square in Bradford and the Lord Mayor, Cllr Martin Love, wished him well before the first leg of his journey.
This September Jeffrey is taking on Mission 5000 and helping the MND Association cover 5,000 miles, which is a mile for every person affected by MND in the UK.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford Cllr Martin Love said: “It is always great to support Jeffrey on the amazing challenges in which he takes part.
“I know that due to injuries he is finding it tough but I also know how determined he is and am sure he will get some miles in to support the MND Association.”
Jeffrey added: "I'm determined to get some miles in for MND."
Jeffrey's fundraising will be split between the West Yorkshire Branch of the MND Association to support local people with MND, their families and carers with the other half going towards MND research to help find a cure for the disease.
