THE opening of a new Tesco convenience store in the Bradford district has been delayed, the supermarket chain has confirmed.
Tesco was due to open its new Express store on Saltaire Road, Shipley in September, the chain announced in July.
But Tesco has given an update saying it hopes the store will now open to customers in October, with no reason given for the slight delay.
Building work on the new store is well underway, with the store’s structure already built, markings painted on the front for a 10-space car park including one disabled space. But no Tesco signage has been added to the front of the store yet.
The Tesco store will replace the since demolished Northcliffe Garage on the site between Shipley and Saltaire.
A Tesco spokesman said: “We’re pleased to say our new Express store in Shipley is progressing well and we hope to open in October.
“We look forward to serving the local community and will provide updates on the official opening date as soon as we can.”
Plans for the store were approved by Bradford Council last year.
Tesco’s planning application included a proposal to demolish the vacant garage site and build a 320sqm shop with 10 car parking spaces.
