FIRST BUS group has issued a statement after residents raised concerns that a major bus route was going to be withdrawn next month.
Social media speculation suggested that the 616 and 619 bus route which departs from Bradford Interchange and travels through Bingley and onto Eldwick was going to be cancelled after a bus user had seen some outdated information on a government website.
Residents were left angry and frustrated, with some questioning how they would get to work or go to the shops.
Anahita Hayrabedian even set up a petition to try to overturn the apparent decision.
She said: “People that live in Eldwick or upper Bingley will have no option but to take their cars into Bingley - something we try to avoid as much as possible to save on fuel & carbon emissions.
“As for elderly pensioners and those who do not drive this is appalling. People will become more isolated. I know of people who will just not venture out to Bingley once the bus line stops. This is an outrage.”
However, First bus group has told the T&A that they “can reassure customers that the 616/619 services will not be withdrawn in October.”
A spokesperson said: “Further to the recent Department for Transport announcement of a £130m bus industry funding package from October 2022, we’re now conducting a network review with the Combined Authority as a condition of this transitional arrangement.
“Updates will be provided as necessary but please be assured the current 616/619 timetable will continue until further notice.”
