POLICE dashcam footage has been released of a Ford transit van trying to get away from officers prior to a crash which killed three people on the M606 motorway.
Jack Simpson drove away in the van after seeing police. The van was driven at over 70mph in a 30mph zone, the court heard, and Simpson drove through a red light.
Simpson drove towards Cleckheaton, going on the wrong side of road to overtake a vehicle. He was travelling 55-58mph on the wrong side of the road, the court heard.
He then reached 90mph on the wrong side of the road. Simpson passed through a right turn only lane at Chain Bar roundabout.
He continued travelling the wrong way around Chain Bar roundabout. He was now not being followed by police, as officers had lost sight of Simpson in the van.
The teen travalled north on the southbound carriageway of the M606.
Another motorist flashed their lights at Simpson as they were on wrong side of road, with the van 'being pushed as hard as it could, speed wise' at that point.
A taxi driven by Sohail Ali, who had passenger Simon McHugh in his taxi, was travelling the correct way along the motorway. Both occupants of that vehicle were wearing seatbelts, the court heard.
Simpson drove head-on into Toyota Prius vehicle, the court heard.
Paramedics quickly at scene. Mr McHugh and Mr Ali were pronouced dead at the scene. Kyden Leadbeater died a few hours after the crash.
