PEOPLE getting help at a Bradford drug and alcohol misuse treatment service are behind a pioneering new project.
Bradford New Directions, which is run by Change Grow Live, has teamed up with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS).
Those in treatment and professionals at New Directions worked together to identify the sorts of programmes that would make a meaningful difference.
Together, they proposed practical, useful first aid and life skills training and YAS helped to make it happen.
The seven-week Achieve programme has seen great success, with all participants on track to complete training and obtain certification.
Change Grow Live is now considering taking the programme national.
Sean Ridley, project manager for the outreach teams at Change Grow Live in Bradford, said: “It has been amazing to see this project come to life from what started as a conversation around offering basic life support skills to service users following their feedback on what would be beneficial to them in recovery groups.”
Dave Jones, YAS community engagement officer, said it had been a “humbling” experience and added: “I hope to see this programme used on a wider scale so others can benefit from it no matter where they live.”
