A BRADFORD City charity is holding an event to help fund a new community café and hub near the club’s ground.

The Bradford City Community Foundation is staging the Bantams Ball on Saturday, September 17, at Valley Parade.

It will help fund a café and City Hub building which is being built in the former Bantams club shop at the ground. The café and hub is due to open in the autumn.

The community café will become a new space and cafe space to meet and eat, while funding some of the club’s charity’s most necessary provisions like feeding families in need and creating a safe space for women and girls in Bradford.

The café will also be open for supporters to have a cuppa on City matchdays.

The event will take place between 7.30pm and 1am after City’s League 2 home clash against Stevenage, also at their home ground.

Foundation volunteers will also be collecting funds from fans at the game with the charity aiming to raise £1 from everyone who attends. The Stevenage clash has been billed as a Community Foundation takeover day.

The ball, the first the charity has held, will include a three-course meal, entertainment from the Mississippi Soulman, who will perform a host of Motown classics, and a resident DJ. It will also raise funds through a raffle and charity auction.

Ian Ormondroyd, chief executive of the Bradford City Community Foundation, says all proceeds from the glittering night will go towards funding a key location for the charity’s work.

He said: “The ball will try to fund the cost of the café. It will help towards it. We are looking to raise about £20,000 from the ball.

“We want to open the café up to the general public and have it open on Bradford City matchdays. It is pretty much near the ground and it has a nice environment.

“It will also be used as a café during the week. The ball will be a glitzy do and it will be held after the Stevenage game.

Tables are being sold for the Bantams Ball and tickets are available, priced £38 per person.
