WE ARE all hot and bothered by the heatwave that is sweeping the country. Animals and birds too feel the need to escape the soaring temperatures. At St Leonards Farm Park, Esholt, in 2006, pigs had to be given extra water so they can bathe in mud and keep their skin cool. In 2011 a family of ducks jumped into Ilkley Lido to cool off.
After a run, horses love to cool off in a cold stream or river and, as we know, sheep love their shorn bodies in summer. We have put together pictures of various creatures keeping cool.
