A barber’s shop in Haworth is offering free back-to-school haircuts to help families struggling with money.
Industry Barbers, on Mill Hey, Haworth will be handing out free haircut vouchers at a local food bank, so parents who are being affected by the rising cost of living don’t need to worry about paying to get their child’s haircut when they return to school in September.
Joe Slack, owner of Industry barbers said: “We know everyone’s struggling at the minute and since Covid really.
“The cost of living is getting out of hand, and we’ve noticed that there’s an increased use in foodbanks so we thought it would be ideal to offer back-to-school cuts to help out families and parents who might not otherwise be able to afford it.”
“A fresh haircut can boost confidence and self-esteem, especially if kids are going back to school or to a new school.
He explained that he sees a “change in people” when he gives them a re-style, they often leave the shop with “a spring in their step.”
“It’s well known in the barbering industry how much impact a haircut can have on people. But that’s not the only thing it can impact, studies have shown children with higher self-esteem perform better in school, act positively, and tolerate frustration much better than those with lower self-esteem,” Joe added.
The barber's shop is offering the free cuts from August 20, to August 28 so that parents have time to “bring their little ones in time for school.”
Children aged 15 years and under will be able to benefit from the service, after picking up a voucher from the local food bank.
Last year, Industry barbers were ranked the best barber in Yorkshire at England's Business Awards.
At the time, Joe said: “I’ve always cut hair, more as a hobby than a job and I used to work at a barbers shop in my spare time. It is my hobby and passion. We’ve got a solid team of like-minded barbers.”
They were analysed by a mystery shopper who judged them on categories such as customer service.
Vouchers will be available from Worth Valley Food Bank based at West Lane Baptist Centre on a Tuesday.
Appointments must then be made via the Industry Barbers app or by calling on 01535 648903.
