Two Bradford MPs have urged the Government to take action over “deeply worrying” statistics on access to NHS dentists.
New analysis from the British Dental Association and the BBC found 98 per cent of Bradford-based NHS dental practices contacted by the BBC were not taking new adult NHS patients.
Judith Cummins MP (Bradford South, Labour) said: “The sheer extent of the NHS dentistry shortage is deeply worrying, but not surprising.
“I have told the government time and time again that access to NHS dentistry was a ticking time bomb for much of the country, including Bradford. This is a dereliction of duty from a government who have chosen not to listen or act.
“The crisis in NHS dentistry needs immediate action from government.
“This research shows the shocking and dangerous state of NHS dentistry, and highlights that Yorkshire & Humber has among some of the worst access to NHS dentists in the UK.”
Meanwhile Imran Hussain MP (Bradford East, Labour) said: “People in Bradford have struggled for years to get registered with a dentist, let alone get an appointment, and I've taken this issue up time and time again with the Government who refuse to act.
“Ministers must ensure dental care is accessible for all.”
