THE inquest has been opened and adjourned into the deaths of two men in a car crash in Bradford.

Mohammed Azad Khan and Arsalan Khalid Baig, both 24, died in a crash on Dryden Street.

The one-car collision took place at around 11.30pm on Saturday, July 30, when an Audi SQ5 collided with a wall after failing to negotiate a left-hand turn.

Both men were confirmed as occupants of an Audi in the crash during the inquest opening.

Mr Khan, of Pearson Street, Bradford, was pronounced dead at 00.08am on July 31 by an attending paramedic at the scene of the crash. He was described as a married man who was born in Bradford.

His initial cause of death was due to chest injuries.

Mr Baig, of Killinghall Drive, was pronounced dead at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) at 11.35am on July 31, 2022. He was described as a single man who was born in Bradford. The provisional report of Mr Baig’s cause of death was due to his injuries.

A third male was also taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

The inquest into the two men’s deaths was opened and adjourned at Bradford Coroner’s Court by Bradford Assistant Coroner Mary Burke in a 10-minute hearing today.

Both men’s full inquest hearings are scheduled to take place on December 29, 2022.

West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team (MCET) would like to speak to anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of the incident.

Speaking last week, DS Fiona Allan, of the MCET, said: “The Audi had been travelling along Dryden Street away from Shipley Airedale Road when the crash occurred, and we are keen to speak with anyone who saw the car in the moments before the collision or the crash itself.”

Speaking on the Dryden Street crash, Imran Hussain, MP for Bradford East said: “This is of course an immensely tragic incident, and the deaths of these two much-loved young men who had so much promise and had their whole lives ahead of them, in what are absolutely horrific circumstances, has sent shockwaves through a community that has been left in a state of shock and mourning.

“No parent should ever have to bury their child and should never have to do so when they’re so young.”
