MORE than £100,000 has been spent on a popular Italian restaurant in Bradford to give it a makeover and extension.

Aldo’s Italian, based on Harrogate Road, Greengates, has been transformed with a new look inside.

The restaurant space has increased and now includes more room for tables and a new second bar area.

The design work has been carried out by restaurant owner Aldo DeVittoris’ wife Sharon, who describes the look as a contemporary Venetian style, which has an industrial feel - with glamour.

Some of the walls are painted in an aged copper and mint green colour scheme, bringing a taste of Italy to Greengates. Another wall features a floor-to-ceiling mirrored effect. There is a large booth with space for 12 diners.

The restaurant’s extension means the dining spot has been able to go from 74 seats indoors to at least 108, which is also flexible in number increase. There is also a 26-seat outdoor dining space.

The indoor dining area features marble-topped tables throughout.

The outside of the restaurant has also been given a new look and has been painted black, with the Aldo’s sign in large gold lettering. The work has been carried out by Meehan Property Interiors.

Aldo’s Italian opened up its new and extended restaurant earlier this week to customers and it is already proving popular. It plans to bring back its bottomless brunches later this year.

The makeover project started in July last year and was carried out while work on the new Greengates junction took place directly outside the restaurant, which opened its doors on Harrogate Road in July 2017.

The newly-improved junction, where New Line and Harrogate Road meet, has undergone a major transformation in the past 22 months and was completed in May this year after overrunning. Despite his frustrations while work was being carried out, Mr DeVittoris praised the completed job.

Mr DeVittoris said the restaurant's new décor is already proving popular with diners.

He said: “I love it and everyone loves it.

“I’m relieved it’s all done. The work has been a labour of love.

“We kept open with having the marquee open outside the restaurant while we did the work.

"Then, at the same time, the roadworks outside were going on. Luckily, we had the marquee, and we could extend it.

“We’re going from strength to strength.”
