WHEN residents in the Hoyle Court district of Baildon went to change their library books in July 1974, they found a smart new mobile library waiting to receive them.
Resplendent in the Bradford district’s colours, the vehicle was more than 30ft long, and contained 3,000 novels, works of reference, and children’s books, with plenty of space for borrowers to inspect their selections.
Pictured is the district’s first mobile library, pictured in Baildon in July, 1974.
The vehicle was staffed by Mrs F Smith, a mobile librarian, and Mr T Carroll, a driving assistant. Each Monday, it paid a visit to seven outlying points at Baildon.
