Owner Stacey Birckett bumped into an old friend who had fallen into difficult times during the pandemic.
Stacey said: “They had lost their job at the start of the pandemic, but there was help in place to keep them in their homes but as soon as that was taken out, they were evicted.
“They’re now sofa surfing and don’t have a lot of money.
“I told them to come to the cafe, but they were embarrassed to come and get food for free.
“But then I started thinking how many other people could be struggling and I thought I should do something.”
Stacey put out a post on Facebook telling her customers that she was offering a free meal to anyone struggling if they tell staff ‘James has sent me'.
Customers can get a free breakfast and hot drink, without anyone having to know their financial situation.
She added: “I want to do what I can to help and I want people to pass this information on, in case anybody doesn’t see the post.”
