RESIDENTS and councillors have spoken of their shock after a man was left seriously injured in a fight in a Bradford street.

A 28-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the incident on Great Horton Road.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in connection with the fight. They remain in police custody. 

Police were called to the scene just before 9pm yesterday (Tuesday).

An extensive police cordon was in place on sections of Great Horton Road and its surrounding areas. Two smaller cordons could be spotted on side streets off Great Horton Road, including King’s Fold and Paternoster Lane.

A number of uniformed police officers and police community support officers were inside the cordon at the scene.

Marked police cars were also parked at either end of the large, main cordon on Great Horton Road. Traffic was diverted away from the road while a forensic examination of the scene got underway.

A Great Horton Road resident, who did not wish to be named, said he heard shouting and fighting on the street from his home at around 9pm.

He told the Telegraph & Argus: "There were too many people going down there (the street) to count how many of them there were."

Another resident said: “People now know not to walk down that end of Great Horton Road."

He added: "It’s a no-go area, it’s horrendous.”

One resident said they saw a large police presence at the scene at around 11pm on Tuesday.

Councillor Tariq Hussain (Lab, Great Horton) spoke of his concern at the news and said people are alarmed when such things happen. 

He said: “It’s a shocking incident. I hope the police can swiftly conclude their investigation.

“An incident of this nature can raise alarm for the public.”

Police cordons remained in place into this afternoon, with the road eventually re-opening at around 1pm. 

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a fight at 8.58pm on July 26 on Great Horton Road, Bradford.

"On arrival, officers found a 28-year-old man with serious but not believed to be life-threatening injuries.
