A total of 26,000 trees have so far been planted through a scheme to plant a tree for every child in the district.

But it has been “a challenge” to find suitable sites.

The Bradford Council project, which began in late 2020, aims to plant 55,000 trees across the district, corresponding with the number of primary school aged children in Bradford.

At a meeting of the Council last week, Councillor Rizwana Jamil (Lab, Bowling and Barkerend) asked for an update on the project.

£10,000 grant to plant trees at four sites across the district

The Council Executive response said 26,000 out of the 55,000 planned trees have been planted so far.

They added: “There continues to be active engagement with schools and 20 school orchards have been planted within that figure.

“Whilst identification of suitable sites has been a challenge, there is now sufficient land to aim for completion in 2024.”
