Emergency services are dealing with an incident on Stanningley Bypass which has left a strong smell of burned rubber in the air. 

Queues of traffic are building on the eastbound A647 Stanningley Bypass between B6155 Richardshaw Lane and Swinnow Lane.

The average speed is currently 5mph, according to The AA.

West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue are on the scene, where it "looks like a vehicle has caught on fire or exploded". 

"It looks like a lorry has caught on fire or exploded on Stanningley bypass," one passer-by said. 

"The entire area just stinks of burning and rubber.

"Lots of police and fire fighters. The fire is out now."

The incident has had a knock on effect on traffic around Thornbury, Stanningley and the first section of the ring road heading towards Calverley and Horsforth, past the roundabout.

There are delays of nine minutes on A647 Bradford Road Westbound between Swinnow Road and A6120 Ring Road Farsley (Dawsons Corner).

First bus services 72 and X6 are currently being affected by severe delays, the operator said. 

There are 30 minute delays at this time, First said.
