TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of former Deputy Lord Mayor Elaine Byrom, who died on Saturday (July 9).

Former Cllr Byrom served as Deputy Lord Mayor in 2007-2008, with her late husband David as her Consort. She was a Conservative councillor for Clayton & Fairweather Green.

The flags across the district will be lowered as a mark of respect and the City Hall bell will toll tomorrow morning between 10 and 11am.

Current Lord Mayor Councillor Martin Love, said: “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Elaine Byrom, who served as a councillor for a number of years and cared deeply for the people of our district. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”

Councillor Rebecca Poulsen, Leader of the Conservative Group, added: “I would like to send our condolences to Elaine’s family and friends. She was a hard working dedicated councillor who was a real advocate for her residents in Clayton and Fairweather Green. She also served in a wide range of roles on the council, including as Deputy Lord Mayor, that she covered with great diligence. She will be very much missed by all who worked with her”.
