A DRUNK driver, who was more than three times over the limit, was crucially stopped by police on the motorway.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a member of the public notified officers that a red Renault Megane was being driven erratically and weaving between lanes on the M62.

Police intercepted the car and brought it to a halt.

The driver provided a roadside breath sample of 113 micrograms, the legal limit is 35 mgs per 100 millilitres of breath.

PC Martin Willis - known as Motorway Martin on social media - thanked the public who potentially helped save lives.

He tweeted: "Thankfully a member of the public rang us after seeing and following this vehicle, being driven erratically at 30mph on the #M62 and weaving between lanes.

"Fortunately we were able to intercept it and stop it.

"Another drunk driver off the road and potentially lives saved."
