A BRADFORD councillor has credited an inspirational school after speaking to students about politics and litter.
Teachers from Killinghall Primary School invited Cllr Mohammed Shafiq (Lab, Bradford Moor) to talk about politics with a group of Year Four students eager to find out about how local democracy works.
Cllr Shafiq was taken to task with a question and answer session featuring a wide range of topics from litter fines to the hardest part of his job.
“Every child puts their hands up to be Prime Minister and Bradford is the youngest city in Europe so it is great our educators are harnessing aspirations,” said Cllr Shafiq.
"Bradford greats such as Sir Titus Salt, David Hockney and the Bronte sisters feature on the school walls alongside international civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr to inspire students.
“The school is a massive credit to our ward and Bradford so if I’ve inspired a few politicians of the future during this visit that makes me happy.
“I was amazed at the variety of questions asked but the message I really want to amplify from these children is let's clean our streets by toughening the laws on littering, increase funding for more police officers to implement these laws and extra funding to employ more cleaning staff for our areas."
